{"id":3173,"date":"2024-09-24T17:52:55","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T21:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepetigrureview.com\/?page_id=3173"},"modified":"2024-09-24T17:52:55","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T21:52:55","slug":"issue-17-poetry-moore","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/thepetigrureview.com\/?page_id=3173","title":{"rendered":"Sketches"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>by William Rieppe Moore<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>I<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mini cookie cutter cheesecloth moon<br>over the yellow Iron Mountains of fall<br>is as impermanent as rattled leaves underneath it.<br>Not until I\u2019d wheeled along in my mid-size truck<br>well-past Dollar General on 91\u2014a bumpin<br>free-trade merchant for the prophesy to come,<br>did I even see the moon crack its geode in the day.<br>When I say, <em>mini,<\/em> I mean thumbnail small\u2014<br>when you hold your arm just like that<br>with your thumb up as if you were tryin<br>to hitch a ride with the sky and the fist\u00a0is not quite<br>closed, like a trade paperback from an outdoor library,<br>and the hand is positioned as if it could think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>II<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I didn\u2019t say that the mountains, they weren\u2019t<br>yellow like what you\u2019d see on a primary color wheel.<br>To be honest the woods were pigmented by what<br>you get when lots of colors link like a chain from<br>far away\u2014shades of coral reef folks say<br>don\u2019t occur in nature or deviate from<br><em>natural tones<\/em>\u2014I say I saw coral that color once<br>on a cruise ship to Guadeloupe, but back to<br>mountains and the moon that let you see so closely<br>you might let slip, <em>Boy those mountains<\/em><br><em>and that little thumbnail moon<\/em>. Here I\u2019ll sketch<br>the moon like this and let itbe confused<br>for a rambler thumbin to get on down the road<br>hummin to <em>that fair land to which I go<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>William Rieppe Moore is from Richland County, South Carolina and moved to Unicoi County, Tennessee with his wife.
